Vinegar Is the Elixir

My very first homemade organic facial mask. This is what got me started and I never looked back.

Who knew that vinegar, a liquid that has quite a rancid smell, could be so healthy for your pores? And so it is.

Here is what you need:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Green tea
  • Honey
  • Sugar

After you wash your face, mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with two cups of water as the finishing touch to cleanse and tighten your skin.

The facial mask is created by adding a tablespoon of the apple cider vinegar to a bowl filled with two tablespoons of cooled green tea. Finally, add one tablespoon of honey in it and stir the mixture. For a thicker consistency add a tablespoon of sugar.

Spread the mask evenly on your face, preferably with a cotton pad, and massage it for a few minutes from the inside towards the outside in circular movements. This will help remove dead skin cells and improve circulation.

The sugar in the recipe is a natural exfoliant that helps to break up scar tissue and unclog skin pores. Leave the mask do some work and go lay on your couch for a good 10 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can use this beauty mask about once to twice a week.

To complement the relaxation moment on your couch cut off two slices of cucumber and put them on your eyes. Cucumber has the brilliant effect of revitalizing the skin. It also has a mild skin lightening effect. This is why it is often used to diminish the dark circles under the eyes.

Extra tip!

If you want to go the extra mile here is a recipe for a delicious home made moisturizer.

What you need:

  • Coconut oil (anti aging, moisturizing, contains antibacterial properties and its effects on the skin are similar to those of an antioxidant)
  • Vitamin E oil (it helps reduce scar tissue and skin blemishes)
  • Lavender oil (it is relaxes the muscles and is a well known antioxidant)

Start by melting the coconut oil. I usually do this by placing the jar into a bowl of boiling water). Once the coconut oil begins to melt add the vitamine E and lavender oil to the mix. Give the mix a whisk and let it set. Then whip the mix with a fork (optional).

Once the coconut solidifies you can apply it to your skin to finish the cleansing process. I suggest buying a glass jar to seal the freshness.

The Opening Act

Welcome to a blog that aspires to help working women, especially working mothers, find a healthy balance between life and work. To achieve that I will share articles on work-life balance, tips on life coaching, healthy recipes as well as home made beauty treatment suggestions using organic ingredients from your own fridge. I also plan to share time management tips, which are imperative when trying to lead a healthy and well-balanced life.

I’ve heard many people say that achieving work-life balance is a myth.

Au contraire.

It is all in your power. You are the only person that can break those chains. Changing your lifestyle and the way you think will play an important role throughout this journey.

As a full time lecturer, coach, coordinator and a mother I had a hard time adjusting. I could not do it alone. Learning about life coaching was very therapeutic. It opened my mind to new patterns of thinking. New ways of looking at life while discovering more of myself. I would love to share these with you in this blog.

Someone once asked me: “When you’re gone would you rather have your epitaph say ‘She never missed a meeting’. Or one that said ‘She was a great mother’?

It definitely got me thinking. It occurred to me that it is also a myth to think that you have to be miserable in order to be successful. It is all about playing your cards right. Don’t work too hard, work smart. Divide your time accordingly, stimulate your mind, do fun things, eat healthy. Your body is your temple. Every little thing adds up. Ask yourself the right question: How can I learn to know myself and then put this knowledge to good use, not only in my personal but also in my professional life.

I have made it my mission to provide some guidance in the midst of changing and difficult times, both personally and professionally. I will set the stepping stones that are required for a change in thought pattern. An open mind is the key to¬†personal growth. We can only find harmony through perceived balance once we’ve let go of thoughts and patterns that disable us.
