My name is Ignacia aka Iggystardust. A traveling devotee, an 80s music fanatic, beer lover, and a hardworking mommy. At first, I didn’t know where to start because there are many defining moments in one’s journey. Moments that shape you. Up until now I have had two defining moments in my life that shook me to the core. One of them led me to starting this blog…
I grew up in Santiago, Chile’s capital city. I had a very serene childhood. My fondest memories are the times that I spent with my grandfather, one of the most influential people in my life. I loved that man. He gave me so much love and wisdom.
My parents divorced when I was 12. My mother soon met another man and decided to get married. There was one slight problem. He was Dutch and this meant that we were going to move to Holland. This devastated me. Even though I was happy that my mother had found love, I really did not want to move. Everything I loved was in Chile and going away was not how I had pictured it all to be.
I was young and rebellious. I did not make it easy for my mother. We fought a lot and I held it against her for a long time.
On hindsight, it was the best that thing happened to me. My life experience in Holland has shaped me into who I am today. But more on that later.
I arrived in Holland amidst my puberty years. It was extremely difficult to adjust but in the end I made great friendships and met a lot of wonderful people, so I stayed.
When I graduated high school I was left at a crossroads. I wasn’t really sure in which direction I wanted to go. I noticed many of my friends encountered the same dilemma. They did not really know which career path to take.
I started studying European Law but quit soon after. It wasn’t challenging enough.
After doing some soul searching I decided that my interests and motivation lie in research. I wanted to do research on topics that affected society. I felt very passionate about this so I decided to study Sociology.
In 2012 I got my Master’s degree in Industrial Sociology, with a specialization in Human Resources Management. I wrote my Master’s thesis on the work-life balance of working mothers, always a hot topic within the field. It still fascinates me how it is so hard for us human beings to find a good balance in our lives.
In June 2013 I became a mother to the beautiful Calista Maria. She is my sunshine. Because of her I embarked on a self-discovering journey I never thought I would experience.
When you become a parent you experience emotions that you never did before. As a woman it can be hard to cope.
There was a feeling of utter happiness, but at the same time I was terrified. All these questions flashed in my mind. Will I be a good mother? Will I handle being a working mother? Will I find the balance? For a long time I was out of balance and unhappy. However my journey did not end there.
I soon decided to do training on life coaching. I thought it would be a great opportunity to do some soul searching and at the same time learn how to help others. I decided that helping others and sharing with others is very important for personal growth.
Here is where the internet comes into place. You have to voice your wisdom and thoughts in order to help others. The more we share the more we learn from each other’s experiences.
Achieving personal balance is all about having an open mind set. Being able to go that extra mile for yourself, because it is definitely worth it.
In this blog I will share tips on how I try to deal with my everyday work-life balance. Think about the key words: mind, body, soul. Taking care of your body is only the beginning of your journey to self-discovery.
I will include weekly recipes of healthy dishes that are easy to make if your time is limited. I will also share beauty tips using ingredients that you can grab from your own fridge.
I will also share articles on life coaching and time management, because let’s face it, managing time can be quite a challenge. It is imperative to reset your mind. But we need to be open for that reset. Only then can there be change. Hopefully I will be able to help you on your journey.
